About

Animator

Our mission is to help and encourage all who make animated movies as a hobby. We cover all styles of animation including drawn, plasticine/clay, puppet and computer.

Animator has two main sections; a blog with information that we hope is useful to animation enthusiasts and an archive of articles originally published in a magazine called Animator’s newsletter.

I hope that today’s budding animators will find inspiration among the pages of the Animator archive, particularly if they are lone workers. Also those who are studying the history of animation will be able to mine a rich vein of information from the pages of Animator.

Animator’s newsletter was published in what many consider to be the golden age of hand animation in Britain. The rise of commercial TV advertising provided the backing that fuelled an outpouring of creativity in the UK. In the 35 issues of Animator’s newsletter published between 1982 and 1995 we covered this exciting period and spoke to the animators involved. This is your chance to experience that period with the first hand accounts published in Animator’s newsletter. Issues will be added at regular intervals so that you can follow the story of British animation.
