The 83rd Annual Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2010 took place on February 27th, 2011. There were the five films nominated for the Short Film (Animated) category :

Day & Night – Preview – directed by Teddy Newton (2010)

Day & Night follows two characters, Day and Night. Inside Day is a day scene with a sun in the center, and inside Night is a night scene with a moon in the center. Whatever goes on inside of Day or Night expresses normal events that typically occur within a day or night, respectively, and these events often correspond with actions or emotions that the characters Day or Night express. For example, when Day is happy he will have a rainbow inside him, and when Night is happy he will have fireworks inside him.

The Gruffalo – Trailer (2009)

An animated film based on the classic children’s picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, The Gruffalo tells the magical tale of a mouse who takes a walk though the woods in search of a nut. The film was directed by Jakob Schuh and Max Lang and animated at Studio Soi in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

Let’s Pollute – Trailer (2009)

Let’s Pollute is an animated short created by Geefwee Boedoe and Tim Crawfurd. The film is a current day social commentary animated in a 1950’s and 1960’s educational film style.

The Lost Thing – Trailer by Shaun Tan and Andrew Ruhemann

Oscar winner. Directed by Andrew Ruhemann, Shaun Tan. Starring Tim Minchin. A boy finds a strange creature on a beach, and decides to find a home for it in a world where everyone believes there are far more important. The Lost Thing is based on the highly acclaimed picture book by multi award winning author and illustrator, Shaun Tan.
