Harvie Krumpet

This is an Australian clay animation made in Melbourne by Adam Elliot. Winner of the 2004 Oscar for Best Animated Short Film, Harvie Krumpet is the biography of an ordinary man seemingly cursed with bad luck.

The Street by Caroline Leaf (1976)

Canadian-American film maker and animator Caroline Leaf mixed paint with glycerine to animate by painting directly on glass under the camera and manipulating the picture frame-by-frame. The film won two Genie Awards and was nominated for the Academy Award (Best Animated Short Film) in 1977.

George and Rosemary – Alison Snowden & David Fine (1987)

A romantic comedy about two golden-agers proves that passion is not exclusively for the young. It tells of George’s affection for his female neighbour and the outcome of his decision to quit daydreaming and take action. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1988.

Bob’s Birthday by Alison Snowden & David Fine (1994)

Cringe and wince as Bob’s surprise 40th birthday party backfires. Bob’s Birthday won the Best Animated Short Film Oscar in 1994 and was the precursor of the legendary Bob & Margaret series. Logorama by François Alaux and Hervé de Crécy (2009)

It is comprised entirely of corporate logos and features the police chasing an armed criminal in a version of Los Angeles. Winner of the 2010 Academy Awards Best Animated Short film. Logorama website: Logorama. Logorama was directed by François Alaux and Hervé de Crécy in France.

Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty (2008)

Directed by Nicky Phelan and produced in Ireland. The film tells the story of a seemingly sweet old lady who terrifies her little granddaughter at bedtime with her dark version of the Sleeping Beauty fairytale. It was nominated for best animated short film in the 2010 Academy Awards.

A Matter of Loaf and Death – extract – Top Bun (2008)

It was directed by Nick Park at the Aardman animation studio. A Matter of Loaf and Death was the big BBC TV hit of Christmas 2008 and features the voices of Geraldine McEwan, Peter Sallis and Sally Lindsay. It was nominated for best animated short film in the 2010 Academy Awards.
