To get this top 10 list I went to Amazon UK and searched for MP3 “Animated movie soundtrack”. The list was then sorted by popularity, which I presume means by current sales. I have compiled the list into an Amazon sampler so that you can listen to extracts. Many of the songs were from the album Animania – Music from Animated Movies 1 & 2 but where possible I have selected the original soundtrack song for the sampler below.
1. Treasure Planet: I’m Still Here (Jim’s Theme) performed in the 2002 film by Rzeznik.
2. Aristocats: Everybody Wants To Be a Cat, performed in the 1970 film by Phil Harris.
3. Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs: The Dwarfs’ Yodel Song (The Silly Song) performed in the 1937 film by Otis Harlan, Billy Gilbert, Pinto Colvig and Scotty Mattraw.
4. Toy Story: You’ve Got a Friend in Me, performed in the 1995 film by Randy Newman.
5. Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs: Heigh-ho! performed in the 1937 film by unknown chorus.
6. Aladdin: Arabian Nights, performed in the 1992 film by Bruce Adler.
7. Jungle Book: I Wanna Be Like You, performed in the 1967 film by Louis Prima.
8. Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs: Whistle While You Work, performed in the 1937 film by Adriana Caselotti.
9. Beauty and the Beast: Belle, performed in the 1991 film by Paige O’Hara.
10. The Lion King: Hakuna Matata, performed in the 1994 film by Nathan Lane, Ernie Sabella, Jason Weaver and Joseph Williams.
There are no songs from British animation in the list so I have added two classic pieces to the sampler:
Watership Down: Bright Eyes, performed in the 1978 film by Art Garfunkel .
The Snowman: Walking In The Air, performed in the 1982 film by St Paul’s Cathedral choirboy Peter Auty.
