Adventures are the Pits by Porter Vinson (2011)

A young boy gets more of an adventure that he bargained for when he slides into a ball pit. This video has a Pixar style with a great sense of scale and momentum. It was directed and animated by Porter Vinson at Ringling College of Art and Design.


Tooth Fairy Affair by Izabela Melamed (2011)

This is beautifully crafted traditional animation in pencil on paper. The pencil lines really add energy to the animation and the hands are particularly impressive. Tooth Fairy Affair was directed and animated by Izabela Melamed. Izabela is a character animator, storyboard artist and animation director. Career highlights include her work at National Cartoon Animation Studio Sofia in Bulgaria, Anima Studios in Israel and Wild Brain in San Francisco, United States.

Betty by Jessica Wainwright (2010)

Betty is a Welsh woman whose interests and tastes are told through this animation. It is a superb character study with a range of deftly handled techniques. It won the IdeasTap: Short Animation Competition 2011. Directed by Jessica Wainwright at Newport University, Wales. Initially intent on making 2D hand drawn films, she made the transition into 3D stop motion animation in 2009 and revealed a natural talent in this medium. Utilising second hand, commonplace, materials within stop motion, her primary motivation in making films is the ability to open the viewer’s mind and elevate the ordinary.

FLUX by Candas Sisman (2010)

Candaş Şişman’s video dedicated to famous sculptor İlhan Koman was produced for the exhibition İlhan Koman: Hulda Festival, a Journey into Art and Science held in 2010. A red circle, which is colored in reference to the red radiators of Ogre, is traced in a morphological transformation which re-interprets the formal approach of Koman’s works.


Jean-François by Tom Haugomat & Bruno Mangyoku (2009)

A champion swimmer wins his race, and yet seems haunted by images from his childhood. Directed by Bruno Mangyoku and Tom Haugomat, the film was co-produced by Cube Creative in France. This film received the ‘Jean Luc Xiberras de la première oeuvre’ award at the Annecy Festival 2010.


Blip by Ben Harper and Sean Mullen (2008)

This is smooth and simple with imaginative and beautiful artwork. It was produced by Ben Harper and Sean Mullen in their 3rd year at the Irish School of Animation. They used Autodesk 3DS Max. Blip came first in the Best First Animation category at the Galway Film Fleadh 2009.
