Mac ‘n’ Cheese by Tom Hankins (2011)

When you find yourself running scared and running out of energy, there’s only a few options left to outrun your opponent through the southern desert. Stopping at nothing, watch these two guys wear each other out and rip through boundaries hitherto unbroken. Mac ‘n’ Cheese was directed and created by Tom Hankins, Gijs van Kooten, Guido Puijk and Roy Nieterau at the Utrecht School of Arts in the Netherlands.

Mortys by Gaëlle Lebègue (2011)

This is an emotional and generational conflict between mother and son with a twist… the mother is none other than Death. It was co-directed by four students of ESMA Montpellier, France; Gaëlle Lebègue, Aurélien Ronceray Peslin-Mathieu Vidal and Nicolas Villeneuve.

Origins by Robert Showalter (2011)

A tiny robot made of scraps, wonders though the woods until he comes across something that helps him discover where he belongs. This is a simple story beautifull visualised. It was Robert Showalter’s senior thesis at Ringling College of Art and Design. He was responsible for everything you see. The music is by Cody Cook.

Defective Detective by Avner Geller and Stevie Lewis (2011)

This animation was directed by Avner Geller and Stevie Lewis at the Ringling College of Art and Design. It was awarded a bronze medal in the 38th Annual Student Academy Awards competition animation category. Defective Detective is not only entertaining, but also visually appealing, and unique.

Holy Sheep by Justin Farris (2011)

A flock of sheep refuse to stay put while their shepherd attends church. It is Justin Farris’ senior thesis short film, created at Ringling College of Art and Design. Justin was responsible for everything, including story, designs, modeling, animation and sound effects. He is now an animation intern at Pixar Animation Studios.

Who’s Afraid of Mr Greedy? by Simon Boucachard (2011)

A man comes to get back his identity, stolen by an ogre while he was a child, in this is a graduation film from Gobelins (l’école de l’image), in Paris. It was directed by Simon Boucachard with Jean Baptiste Cumont, Sylvain Fabre, Guillaume Fesquet, Adeline Grange, Maxime Mary and Julien Rossire. It was made with traditional 2D animation.

Sayonara by Eric Bates (2011)

A young man, who has just lost his home, spends one last day with his best friend, a sea turtle, before moving on. This graduation project was made by Eric Bates at the Kyoto University of Art and Design. Eric said; “Sayonara is based abstractly on my own experiences living in Japan, the concepts relate in many ways to these experiences, my friends, foods, things I saw, and things I felt over this time; in particular the idea of saying goodbye to close friends.” There is an extra sequence after the end credits.
