This is a great parody on the early animated films when the characters seemed to have rubber limbs. There is also a nod towards the Disney dance sequence from such films as Cinderella.
This animated short film was made in by Osamu Tezuka. It is remarkable in that it is all drawn animation. A subject that might be easy to produce with today’s 3D computer animation software was a painstaking business when this film was animated. The hand drawn nature gives it a freshness that would be difficult to achieve with computer animation.
Cornelius Fit Song by Japanese artist Tsujikawa Koichiro appears to be a combination of stop-motion animation overlaid with computer graphic animation. It won an Excellence Prize at the 2006 Japan Media Arts Festival. There is more information on the Japan Media Arts Festival website.
The Look video was directed by French artists Petra Mrzyk and Jean-François Moriceau. Performed by musician Sébastien Tellier, from the album Sexuality. Alarm was directed by Moo-hyun Jang at the Korean studio MESAI in 2009. This computer animated piece features superb character animation and attention to detail. More information can be found at the MESAI website.
The film tells of a music hall impressionist who caricatures personalities from the second world war. Animated by Barry Bruce at Will Vinton Productions. Vinton’s studio has obtained a niche for itself as a maker of clay animation of quality and originality.
Director Jiri Barta uses object animation to tell of the discovery that there was once a universe peopled by gloves which lived a very human-like existence. Actual gloves were used containing an armature so that they could be animated as 3D puppets.

Skywhales is a fantasy film about aliens who live on islands of vegetation that float in the sky. The story concerns one family who take part in the annual hunt for the Skywhales. A series of strange events show how the islanders’ lives are inextricably linked to those of the whales. Written and directed by Phil Austin and Derek Hayes.
It is Welsh housewife Beryl’s birthday and her workmates take her out for a drink at a pub which has a male stripper. Direction and animation by Joanna Quinn. This film was started whilst Joanna Quinn was a student at Middlesex Polytechnic. It won the Special Jury Prize at 1987 Annecy Animation festival, France.
