The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have announced that 10 animated short films will advance in the voting process for the 84th Academy Awards® Oscars for outstanding film achievements of 2011. The winner will be announced on Sunday, February 26, 2012. Forty-four pictures had originally qualified in the category.
A Short film from the University of Hertfordshire Digital Animation Degree Programme has won the Virgin Media Shorts People’s Choice award 2011. Peter Lord of Aardman Animations was awarded a Golden Palmeras at the 31st Mostra de Valencia – International Film Festival, Spain (15 – 23 October 2010) for his lifetime achievement in animation.
Joanna Quinn, one of the UK’s most celebrated filmmakers, whose animated films have received many international Awards including two Oscar nominations, BAFTAS and Emmys, is to receive yet another major award at the 25th Cinema Jove International Film Festival in Valencia, Spain.
The Wallace and Gromit TV short “A Matter of Loaf and Death” has been nominated for an Oscar for best animated short film in the 82nd Academy Awards. It was made at the Aardman animation studio and directed by Nick Park. Nick has previously been Oscar nominated five times and won four times (the fifth nomination was against another of his own films).
