The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have announced that 10 animated short films will advance in the voting process for the 84th Academy Awards® Oscars for outstanding film achievements of 2011. The winner will be announced on Sunday, February 26, 2012. Forty-four pictures had originally qualified in the category.

A Short film from the University of Hertfordshire Digital Animation Degree Programme has won the Virgin Media Shorts People’s Choice award 2011. The Technical Director of InaniMate is Micheal O’Donogue who created the 3D digital animation with Soulla Josephides and Yinghui Tan.
The movie suggests that there is no galaxy too far, and no impulse too extraordinary, to prevent anyone from finding their true romance.

Academy of Art University alum Ting Tey recently won first place in Animation at the College Television Awards in Los Angeles. Her winning animation is titled Bridge, and acts as a metaphor for daily life when people must overcome disagreements and compromise.
Ting Tey said “I was inspired by many childhood cartoons, comics and games…. They are entertainment that brought me much joy and I would love to be able to create and bring that joy to others.”
The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation 32 annual College Television Awards honored the best student-produced work in video, digital and film production. More than 30 college students from across the United States competed for placement.

Peter Lord of Aardman Animations was awarded a Golden Palmeras at the 31st Mostra de Valencia – International Film Festival, Spain (15 – 23 October 2010) for his lifetime achievement in animation.

Joanna Quinn, one of the UK’s most celebrated filmmakers, whose animated films have received many international Awards including two Oscar nominations, BAFTAS and Emmys, is to receive yet another major award at the 25th Cinema Jove International Film Festival in Valencia, Spain.

The Wallace and Gromit TV short “A Matter of Loaf and Death” has been nominated for an Oscar for best animated short film in the 82nd Academy Awards. It was made at the Aardman animation studio and directed by Nick Park. Nick has previously been Oscar nominated five times and won four times (the fifth nomination was against another of his own films).
